Bird Watching
Crystal River has a wonderful selection of native and migratory birds. Crystal River and Citrus County has long been the destination of serious bird watchers from the state and nationally. With well over 200 species of birds calling Crystal River home, the area is a bird watchers paradise. Many of the local species of birds can be found at Great Florida Birding Trail.
Crystal River and Citrus County is home to the largest group of Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers on the Florida Peninsula. Citrus County has also been designated the site for the reintroduction of a migratory flock of Whooping Cranes.
Residents and visitors should consider hiking the Great Florida Birding Trail. This trail winds throughout Crystal River, Homosassa Springs and Inverness. You can start your birding adventure at www.floridabirdingtrail.com
