CITRUS COUNTY FL WATERWAYS

With seven major waterways carving their way across the county, there is plenty of waterfront property in the area.

Located along Floridas West Central Gulf Coast, Citrus County attracts thousands of residents each year, primarily to its waterfront properties.

On the east side of the county, lake chains and rivers provide more picturesque waterfront views. More than fifty smaller lakes comprise the Lake Tsala Apopka chain, and there are three main pools of this chain located in the east part of the county: the Inverness Pool, the Hernando Pool, and the Floral City Pools. The Inverness pool, also called Big Lake Henderson, offers some of the most spectacular views of Floridas natural environment

Whistling water grasses and reeds, great blue herons, egrets, alligators, bull frogs, bass leaping from beneath the surface of the waters, these are just some of the beautiful vegetation and wildlife that live on the lake shores.

The Withlacoochee River is also located in the eastern and northern parts of the county. Here, boaters can meander up and down the river, taking in the overwhelming serenity and preserved beauty all around. Fishermen can engage in some of the best bass fishing around. On both the lakes and the river, water lovers can jet ski, water ski, and swim in the relaxing waters.

The west coast of the county, including Crystal River and Homosassa plus Yankeetown, Inglis and Ozello are flanked by the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. Here, residents can enjoy a multitude of recreations, including boating, snorkeling, kayaking, and scalloping along with excellent fresh and saltwater fishing.

Also in the western part of the county are Crystal River and Homosassa River, both splendid spring-fed rivers that are home to the renowned manatee during the winter months. Both magnificent waterways empty into the Gulf of Mexico, where there is excellent saltwater fishing.

For those seeking peace from the everyday rush of modern life, Citrus Countys waterfront scene is a place to look into. There are many properties available for prospective buyers, but the numbers are dwindling as more and more people discover one of the states last unblemished natural jewels.
